In collaboration with the Thompson Center for Business Case Studies, the Center produces cases on ethnic Chinese family businesses and uses them in teaching the programs. The case method forces family members to grapple with exactly the kinds of decisions and dilemmas they confront, in the family or in the business context. The case method creates an environment in which family members not only simply absorb facts and theories, but also exercise the skills of leadership and teamwork in the face of real problems. Under the guidance of a faculty member, participants from the same or different families work together to analyze and synthesize conflicting data and points of view, to define and prioritize goals, to persuade and inspire others who think differently, to make tough decisions with uncertain information, and to seize opportunity in the face of doubt.
