Professor CHEN Ling is Professor for Family Business and Business History and Associate Dean of School of Management, Zhejiang University. He is also Executive Director of Academy of Global Zhejiang Entrepreneurs and Director of Institute of Family Business at Zhejiang University. His research interests include modern Chinese business history, transformation of family business, corporate governance and enterprise development, regional economic development and employment issues.
Professor Chen received his BS from Fudan University Shanghai, Master of Economics from Beijing University and PhD of Economics at Humboldt University Berlin in Germany in 1995. Since January 1996, he has been a faculty member in School of Economics, Zhejiang University. He is also Research Fellow or Visiting Scholar at several universities, including University of Duisburg in Germany, Toronto University in Canada, University of Trento in Italy and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Before joining the School of Management at Zhejiang University, he was Associate Dean of School of Economics at Zhejiang University from September 2005 to July 2009. Since 1997 Professor Chen has led almost 20 international and national research projects, four of which were sponsored by National Foundation of Nature Science, China, one by the Ford Foundation, and several by provincial social science foundations. He has published 8 books and more than 80 articles in important academic journals.
Professor Chen teaches Comparative Business History, Family Business Management and Corporate Governance for Postgraduate, MBA and EMBA. He has also been invited by other business schools, government organizations and the Family Business Network to hold a series of lectures for business owners in China. Illustrated using international cases and survey results from Southeast Asian family businesses with a Chinese background, some of his presentations include nurturing second generation business owners, family governance and corporate governance, and building a long-lasting family business.
